Speaking of which, I found this on Pastor Dave's blog. (I meant to post it the other day, but forgot to.)
These are the election results (county by county,) red for McCain and blue for Obama. Amazing, huh? All that blue elects a new president!
In light of Yij Second's frustrations with the government, I always tell this to Josh. The problem with young people these days is that they really don't know the difference between a democrat and a republican. How I've personally understood the difference for the past few years:
Democrats: Believe in a bigger government. That it should be involved in your life. This is so it can help take care of the people who can't take care of themselves. (Think: Community responsibility)
Republicans: Believe in lesser government involvement... Being 'free' and having 'liberties' is what we're all about. We're smart people, and we want to keep the money that we make with our two hands, thank you very much. (Think: Individual responsibility)
How these beliefs actually play out, well, I leave it up to you. But everything Obama's doing, it's very Democratic!
That said, we're sad to hear about peoples' frustrations with the church, in light of the happenings with Maplewood. But we can't help but think, Is this what the pastor alone decided? What about the church board? (Well, unless it's made of people who are in cahoots with the pastor!) What does the congregation think about all this? Isn't there a lot of people that go there? Do they agree with this or do they really have no say?
*sigh* Anyways, it's a new day. Have a good one.

im so glad a guy liked my post! thats awesum josh! haha. well idk much about wats goin on over there, but they are def in johan and my prayers....i get bits and pieces from friends who attend there and i think pple feel pretty helpless. the pastor isn't the one behind it all actually. its the board from what i hear. btw, how are you feeling maikao?
yeah, the pastor isn't behind it, but has done nothing about it. the people are pretty powerless to the governing board. oh well. it's their church, and they have made that known.
Maikao is basically right on about democrats and republicans. i want them to drop all that other bullcrap about religion, gay, abortion, and talk about what they really mean.
i'm an educated person, and all i want is to give me an option on my social security. i would cease to pay it, and do with it what i want. keep it for the people who aren't educated, who don't want to do anything, who actually believe in it, and who need to keep it. give everybody else who doesn;t want it, their own option to keep it. we are the same people who can understand we get nothing if we screw it up.
ok - now i'm all into it.

there are definitely moments when i think back upon america and realize its not all roses there.
one small example. after uncle sam and the state get your money, you've got health insurance to pay (not including dental by the way). by then, you've only got 65% of your check left with which to pay off your car, buy groceries, pay insurance and get gas.

Yes, we are glad that you guys are still here! Very interesting post. I am already behind in my podcasts because I listen to North Point, Buckhead, Mars Hill, Mosaic, as well as my own church sermons. But I'll start listening to Pastor Dave's as well.
It's true that a lot of young people don't know the difference between Reps. & Dems. but I think the bigger problem with young Christians is that they think Jesus would be either a Rep. or Dem. Never in the Bible does it say what he was politically.
Jesus wasn't a Pharisee or a Sagasee or a member of the Roman government. He was none of those things. He never commanded us to choose a political party, He only commanded us to love God and our neighbors.
I think that's whats wrong with a lot of young people's perception on politics. They put too much faith in politics or the church, when their faith needs to be in God.

Yes, i agree, people need to stop hijacking the faith when it comes to politics. i'm afraid it will never stop though. republicans do it, because the truth is, democrats can't. i know it's wrong, but geez, isn't that already telling of the direction democrats are leaning morally? so yes, republicans hijack christianity, but only because democrats are asking them to by what they support morally. think about it.
but were not here to talk about that.
it's about the fundamental differences between red and blue. me? i want options, thats all. wait till you have a family with a child, something to protect other than yourself, or when you finally cash in that first career check, or even something like after you've bought a house... what you want is OPTIONS not REGULATIONS. so heck, yes, i want less government. i want to make my own decisions on saving for my retirement, who to give charity to, and what to emphasize where my taxes might be able to go to. when i think about leading MY family, do I want to do it, or let the government tell me what i can and can't do. where's my freedom? oh yeah, i voted for it, but unfortunately my fellow americans want less control, and more government. sorry, thats too lazy for me.
I think Democrats and Republicans both love people. They just have different methods. In my view, Democrats like to use government programs to help its citizens while Republicans rely on individuals using their own resources to help other citizens. In the end, the result is the same, citizens receive help.
There are always extremes and both parties focus on the etremes versus what is the real need. Republicans get angry because they think people take advantage of welfare and lay around on their butts all day long. Democrats think the rich are greedy and will hoard every penny for themselves. Obviously, both happen because people are sinners. People will abuse government programs and people will abuse capitalism. At the same time, some people use government programs to attain a better life and some people will use capitalism to help the community. We dont' hear much about the successes as we turn our attention to the injustices. That's human nature.
Let's not talk about insurance though. Insurance would be affordable for all of us, but the government got involved. The government put policies in place that make it more difficult to administer healthcare. During WWII the government placed salary restrictions on the job market because successful companies were taking all the "good" workers. In order to draw people in companies started offering benefits (i.e. insurance, vacation, retirement plans). People used to get insurance privately and not through their company. That all changed. Health insurance was affordable, but the market got screwed up because government got involved.
Normally, the market will set the price based off of supply and demand. Insurance is a little more tricky because it also involves loss and how many premiums a company can get. When millions of people are paying premiums one huge $30,000 is easy to cover. The more people purchasing private healthcare the cheaper it'll be. That isn't the case today though.
Government policies (i.e. not allowing insurance companies to cross state lines) restrict the market and make obtaining health insurance difficult. There are more examples; however, it gets ugly.
I'm still going to get you that bag of ice. Serious!
